They Don’t Sing Like This Anymore: Case – ‘Happily Ever After’

One of my favorite songs from the late ’90s was Case’s ‘Happily Ever After.’ In the video is Beyonce who plays the leading lady–but this is the OG Destiny’s Child Beyonce. I’m talking about dark hair and looking naturally beautiful without big hair and makeup. Case is an amazing singer and I hear that he is to drop an album soon, which is exciting. Another thing I just noticed is that at the VERY BEGGINING of the song, that instrumental is also sampled in Destiny’s Child’s ‘Cater To You’. Check out the video below.

I recieved my lisence in the mail and my first thought was “Who the hell is this?!” I swear, the photo they used for my lisence … I don’t ever remember taking it or know where the hell it came from. Now I have a scary ass photo ID and scarier lisence photo. Perhaps, I’ll scan them. Maybe not. Anyway, that was just my random thought. Expect more of these poppin’ up haha!

Song of the Day: Brandy – Long Distance

I loved this song the first time I heard it a couple of weeks ago. Last night Brandy was on the Hills and working with Audrina, who was assisting her in the studio (then leaves to cupcake with whack ass Justin Bobby). Nonetheless, this song is beautiful and universal–I feel like everyone can understand and relate. Seeing Brandy record the track made the song feel even more real and emotional. I’m glad this will be Brandy’s next single and I can’t wait to see the video.

T.I. on Chelsea Lately

Entertaining interview. I love when Chelsea makes her guests feel awkward, ha! It’s apparent that T.I. prefers not to discuss his personal life, but Chelsea’s crazy ass always has that “then why the hell are you here if you don’t wanna talk” tone, but in a humorous way of course.

They Don’t Sing Like This Anymore: Joe – All The Things (Your Man Won’t Do)

One of my R&B favorites, Joe, is still making music today. Unfortunately I don’t enjoy any of his newer content half as much as his ‘All That I Am’ album. One of my favorite tracks (which for some reason keeps poppin’ up on the iPhone as shuffle–but I ain’t complaining) is ‘All The Things (Your Man Won’t Do)’. This is real singing that you don’t hear from Akon or T-Pain. Please bring soulful R&B back, I need it.

Side note: Does anyone else get reminded of Shawn Wayan lickin’ shortys ketchup-ed toes in ‘Don’t Be A Menace’. Yo! I remember that and I had to be like 10 years old when the movie came out haha.

New Music Videos: Keri Hilson – Return The Favor & Estelle ft. Sean Paul – Come Over

Songs leak and videos release daily on the internet so I figured I’d combine some posts to save space.

The first video is Keri Hilson’s ‘Return The Favor’featuring Timbaland. This video and song is a MUCH better representation and introduction of Keri Hilson compared to her first single. Keri is sexy as hell and her style demands attention.

As I had said earlier, I am now a fan of Estelle and I am most definitely feeling her remix to ‘Come Over’ with Sean Paul. I heard this track at the bar and was gettin’ doooown haha. Love the diversity in Estelle’s music and this track just feels good to me. Just breezy.

Weekend Recap: 10/24/08-10/26/08

I am back! Not that I have gone anywhere, but we all have lives and I’ve been unable to blog on a daily basis. First of all, I finally got my license! Not exactly, but I passed my behind-the-wheel test and I am checking DAILY to see when my license arrives. I swear that photo looks like a mafuckin mug shot. Oh well. To wrap up last week, I attended The Roots show which I posted about the day after. Sunday was the day of Sarin’s funeral. It was really weird to see so many people which I haven’t seen in yeeeeeears and everyone is just down. There was much crying and I understood why when I saw his body. It was an open-casket and I was just…speechless when I saw his lifeless body laying there. On a lighter note, this weekend wasn’t too bad.

Friday October 24th, 2008:
I ran errands. It was great. I’m lying, it was horrible. I went shopping, because it was my day off so I wanted to do something laid back and chill. Because I was off Saturday, I just relaxed Friday and watched season two of ‘Weeds’ on DVD. You should check out that show if you’ve never heard of it. Middle class white woman from the suburbs starting slanging weed once her husband dies and she struggles to pay her bills. If that doesn’t just sound interesting enough, I don’t know what is. That was my night.

Saturday October 25th, 2008:
I KNEW I was going out for drinks Saturday night.. but my day seemed to resume from Friday which was boring as hell. I’m all for alone time and whatnot but DAMN. There was a concert at a lounge downtown with Chingy, VIC and someone else. Personally, I didn’t give a shit but I wanted to go out. We checked out the place and the people at the door were telling us it was at another location and all this other shit. It was a mess so we bouuunced. Ended up at a bar and everything was allllll good. I was gettin’ doooooown. But for real, I can’t wait for my friends to turn 21 so we can all chill together.

Sunday October 26th, 2008:
I didn’t arrive home til 4am because of reasons I don’t want to discuss haha. Well, we got pulled over. ANYWAY, woke up around 2 and had to be at work by 4. DAMN. I had to take my dad’s ‘88 Camry. Yo, this shit was making all kinda noises and was a bitch to get started. Luckily my father LOCKED HIS KEYS IN HIS OTHER CAR so he had to come pick up the Camry from my work (for the spare keys). Exciting weekend right? Hahah I’m out!

Soul Live: The Roots, GCH & Estelle at San Jose State

Last Saturday, I was fortunate enough to experience The Roots live for the first time ever. After all of the positive things I always hear about a live Roots performance, I knew I had to see them myself. The huge 6,000 seat room quickly filled up with mostly 20-something year olds. Many of us actually sat on the floor for an hour to have a decent spot to see each band. Estelle opened up the show with much energy and sang songs about her womanly experiences and ended her show paying tribute to ‘American Boys.’ I was surprised by Estelle’s charismatic performance; she was very comedic and direct– kinda like one of your extremely honest home girls. I dug that about her and plan to purchase her album based solely off her performance. Estelle also brought on an audience member and they danced. It was hilarious how she told both males and females that if they wanted to leave with someone to just start (dutty) whining and grinding, ha! CONTINUE READING…

The Return Of B: Beyonce’s ‘If I Were A Boy’ & ‘Single Ladies’ Videos

‘If I Were A Boy’

When most people think of Beyonce, we think of her dramatic ass (over-the-top) singing, whack ass clothing line and how she is promoting everything Loreal, Maybelline, –you name it, she’s there. Personally, I’ve learned to set all of that aside because although all of those things mentioned are true, so is Beyonce’s talent. No only has Beyonce been delivering good music since the late ’90s with Destiny’s Child but she remains consistent while staying true to herself. With all of that said, I was especially skeptic when hearing B’s new singles ‘If I Were A Boy’ and ‘Single Ladies.’…Boy’ had a great meaning, but vocally it was all over the place. As many have said before, ‘Single Ladies’ is very reminiscent of ‘Get Me Bodied’ off her last album ‘B’day. However, after seeing her music videos I changed my mind a bit. 1) B is lookin right and is gettin doooooown and 2) The way they incorporated the storyline for the ‘…Boy‘ video fits the song very well. Both singles will be on Beyonce’s new album ‘I Am’ due out December 18th.

Weekend Recap: 10/10/08

Damn, I know we’re already mid-way into this week but things have been crazy hectic. There’s been a lot going on, yet not enough happening. Hence, me being way behind on my post! I apologize and am back with my weekly recap!

Friday: 10/10/08
Can I be honest? It’s fuckin’ Wednesday. I have no clue what happened last Friday!

Saturday: 10/11/08:
The day was slow and bland. I went to work in the afternoon. Left work by evening. Hit the club for my sister’s homegirl’s birthday. Didn’t really drink though. Took some pictures. Sho nuff danced it up. I suppose this had to be my highlight of the week!

Sunday: 10/12/08:
I arrive at home by around 2:30 or so (the club we went to was in Sacramento.) The very first thing my brother says to me before I even walk into my room was ‘Ah Rin was shot and it’s fatal.’ Ah Rin aka Sarin is one of my brother’s good friends since early childhood (and also brother to one of my childhood friends Sousann). That was hella random and really awkward for me to hear right after getting back from “partying.” We kinda sat around and he left a bulletin on myspace about what happened. He dreaded just waiting for news and I sat awake as well, just clueless and trying to be hopeful. As my brothers cell goes off, he is continually jumpy and I’m just completely lost. Not even 30 minutes later, we hear from Sarin’s older brother that he didn’t make it. My brother then leaves to his room and that was that. I’m still in shock today and I don’t think I have fully taken it in yet. When I think of Sarin, I remember him clowning, drinking beers, playing rock band and skateboarding. He’s one of those goofy ass dudes that everyone knows. That is the reason why people ask why? I don’t really know what to say about that… just Rest In Peace. I assume there will be a funeral this weekend. Sorry for the depressing post, but this shit is real life.
