Trey Songz performed his latest single “I Need A Girl” on 106 and Park yesterday. This is definitely a difficult song to sing, especially live and Trey still killed it. I love to see artists perform with a live band. It makes the music feel more organic and brings the song to life. Catch the interview below. If y’all are ‘Ready‘ for new music be sure to pick up Trey’s album August 4th. For real, some of us fans and bloggers should get paid for how much we promote our favorite aritsts haha! Be sure to hit Trey up at Twitter as well.

This weekend, J. Valentine, Letoya Lucket and Tank will be performing at the Mezzanine in San Francisco. I would DEFINITELY attend, if it weren’t my nephew’s bday! Show some birthday love to bay area’s J. Valentine as well as check out some of the best and underrated acts in R&B today. Kyla Pratt from the TV show ‘One on One’ will be hosting.

DAMN NEAR EVERYWHERE including AOL Sessions. Not mad at that, that’s the kinda promotion B. does around album release time. Performances, album covers, interviews — she does it all. By the way, her album ‘I Am… Sasha Fierce’ is out today. Honestly, I’m kinda tired of seeing her perform her two singles (although she GETS IT every time during ‘Single Ladies). Instead, I caught her perform ‘Me, Myself & I’ a little while ago and I thought this rendition was just beautiful. She sang with much control and the performance was just calm and chill. A slight jazz influence–which I assume is from playing Etta James in the upcoming film, ‘Cadillac Records’. She even interacts with her background singers which I don’t think I’ve EVER seen her do. Also, no crazy ass hair-blowing fan or extra echo around the bridge/end of the track. This is the classic Beyonce I love right here.
but what the HELL is this? Everyone knows I love 90’s Mariah Carey. She looked good. She sang amazingly. Don’t know if I feel the same now. The quality of her music is nowhere near where it use to be. I’m not even mad at her because shit people change over time, but this performance is STRAIGHT disappointing. I mean, still better than Rihanna’s old performance because I thought it would be a train wreck towards the bridge/end of the song yet it wasn’t. Anyway, check the video. Spotted at SFPL.

Not necessarily sure where the hell I’ve been, but I’ve just learned that the soulful Anthony Hamilton is now on tour since last week. I’ve always said I wanted to see him live, just because he had so much energy in his music and I just FEEL what he says when listening to his records. Unfortunately, Anthony Hamilton will not be performing in Northern Cali so I’m not sure if I’ll be able to attend. Also, this tour is very quick and ends in December. On a good note, there is a blog where photos and videos from Anthony’s shows are being posted at the Playin’ It Cool Tour Blog. So, if you live in or around one of the cities below, treat yourself and enjoy a live Anthony Hamilton performance.
P.S. Perhaps I haven’t paid attention nor really cared, but Anthony Hamilton does have his grown-man swag on though. Tour dates can be found HERE.

Last Saturday, I was fortunate enough to experience The Roots live for the first time ever. After all of the positive things I always hear about a live Roots performance, I knew I had to see them myself. The huge 6,000 seat room quickly filled up with mostly 20-something year olds. Many of us actually sat on the floor for an hour to have a decent spot to see each band. Estelle opened up the show with much energy and sang songs about her womanly experiences and ended her show paying tribute to ‘American Boys.’ I was surprised by Estelle’s charismatic performance; she was very comedic and direct– kinda like one of your extremely honest home girls. I dug that about her and plan to purchase her album based solely off her performance. Estelle also brought on an audience member and they danced. It was hilarious how she told both males and females that if they wanted to leave with someone to just start (dutty) whining and grinding, ha! CONTINUE READING…

I’m so fuckin tired of hearing about the Olympics.
On the positive though, Common and N.E.R.D. are going on tour. Dope! Tour dates can be found here. Who’s tryna hit up the Berekely show?

Not too long ago, The Roots were just on tour with Erykah Badu. This fall, they will tour with Gym Class Heroes. Personally, not too sure about that. I think G.C.H. are aiight, but I don’t know if they’re a band I’d like to see live. Also, I like to make sure that the shows I go to have a cool, normal audience and I don’t know if that’s what GCF fans are…you know, normal. HAHA. ANYWAY, here are the California dates.
