Soul Underground: B.o.B.

Last year, Trey Songz posted the video above displaying himself and Atlanta rapper B.o.B. having a spontaneous freestyling session. Off the bat, you can tell how humorous and country B.O.B. truly is. The fact that he had character was intriguing to me, but I was still skeptic about his music because of this first impression. Earlier this year, B.O.B. released his music video for his single ‘Haterz Everywhere’. Shortly after, he released a track titled ‘Grip Your Body’ which samples one of my favorite songs, Amy Winehouse’s ‘Stronger Than Me’. I found it interesting that B.o.B. decided to sample that song, seeing how Winehouse’s debut album, ‘Frank’ was not released in the U.S. until earlier this year. B.o.B. also released his ‘My Name Is B.o.B. Mixtape’. Most recently, B.o.B. did an interview with URB Magazine where he freestyles a song on the guitar, discussed his diverse musical taste and burns incense because he has not be able to smoke (haha!).

Soul Underground: Dondria aka Phatfffat

I’ve decided to start this category to showcase some of my favorite but not-so-known artists. The first Soul Underground artist is Dondria aka Phatfffat. Dondria started off making videos of herself singing and posting on youtube. I’ve been pretty aware of the R&B scene on YouTube and Dondria has been one of the first and most successful and finally got signed to Jermaine Durpri’s label So So Def Records late last year. Continue reading for Dondria’s first single ‘Can’t Stop’ along with some videos.
